MEDIA
TRAINING
The media can be the single most effective vehicle for reaching
a mass audience. Yet, fear of the interview process and a sense
of "lack of control" inhibit most organizations from effectively
using this important channel. Communicating through the media filter
takes an understanding of the media mindset and editorial process.
WPNT's media training programs are designed and tailored to provide
a broad range of experience dealing with the media.
Our Media Awareness seminar
is a half-day session for up to 25 participants. This program is
designed to train participants in the basic workings of the media.
We discuss the importance of the net impression, the media mindset,
the editorial process, understanding the real audience and developing
a message.
In our full-day Media 101 Training
we review the basic workings of the media in greater detail. Participants
learn how to gain greater control in the interview process, develop
and deliver effective messages, and understand the benefits of print,
radio and television. Participants are interviewed in a variety
of media formats, videotaped, and critiqued for maximum effectiveness.
Advanced skills courses are
designed for spokespersons who must communicate more complex and
controversial topics. Special emphasis is placed on development
of the "messenger" and succeeding in more challenging media formats
such as talk television shows, panel presentations and live satellite
interviews.
