John Getter is a veteran award-winning journalist and television producer. He has an active interest in technology and exploration developed during decades of reporting focused on international space programs. His ability to present complex stories in clear and compelling ways has served major media outlets as well as private and public sector consulting clients and political candidates.
A broadcast journalist since 1967, Getter joined KHOU-TV in Houston, Texas, in 1981 and covered the first mission of the Space Shuttle. As a space and science reporter for the next 10 years, he provided in-depth coverage of the first 35 Shuttle missions and was a regular contributor to and consultant for CBS News. His stories were syndicated to CBS affiliates and other outlets in more than 100 countries and on CNN.
In 2006, ABC News brought John aboard as a field producer creating content for World News, Good Morning America and Nightline and the web portal. Earlier, following the tragic loss of the Columbia Space Shuttle in February 2003, John provided expert commentary on the shuttle program for the Fox News Channel. He was co-founder and Senior VP for Creative Development for Media Minded Inc. Previously, John was Senior Vice President of Creative Services of Space Media Inc. and is founder and owner of MOONWALKERS®. He also served as a content manager for the Recovery Channel, a project for the Department of Homeland Security.
Getter has received awards for his work from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (three Emmys), National Telly Awards, Aviation and Space Writers' Association, United States Jaycees, Texas Veterinary Medical Association and others.
