
Monica has been in the communications field for over 25 years. She has been a newspaper columnist, Dallas-based correspondent for Spanish UPI Radio in Washington, television reporter, photojournalist, editor, producer, anchor and news director for KUVN Channel 23. She holds a Broadcast Journalism degree from the University of Texas at Austin.
Monica’s career started as a radio newscaster, talk show host, and KESS radio translator - her role was to ‘simulcast’ English-to-Spanish news for ABC’s local Dallas affiliate. She then worked for Telemundo, until employed by Univision to begin the groundbreaking thirty minute Spanish newscast in Dallas.
As a reporter Monica has covered a variety of beats ranging from city government and presidential campaigns to investigative pieces on environmental issues, crime, and medicine; she received the Anson Jones Award from the Texas Medical Society in 1992.
While living in Europe, Monica was involved in both setting up and teaching in the broadcast journalism department at the North East Institute of Further and Higher Education in Northern Ireland. In addition, Monica continued to work in on-air programming as a freelancer for BBC Radio Scotland. Currently she is a freelance journalist for several Dallas production companies and specializes both in Spanish language voice-overs as well as translating books and other written materials.
Monica has a lively family of six, with husband Greg and children Stefanie and Megan born in Northern Ireland; Alexander and Tessa born in Scotland.
