Over the Rainbow Challenge Tour
In September, WPNT helped raise money and awareness during the 4th Annual Over the Rainbow Challenge Tour Bike Ride. OTR provides housing and job training to adults with physical disabilities and currently operates seven Chicago area apartment communities. Chicago Bear, Emery Moorhead, and professional cyclist, Robbie Ventura, participated in the 100 mile course along Lake Michigan.
About 8,000 adults in Illinois have severe physical disabilities and are relegated to state-funded institutions. While these individuals have the ability and desire to live independently, there is a lack of affordable accessible housing. Living on their own provides a strong sense of independence and saves $11 million annually in taxpayer dollars.
